In July we officially changed our sign:

 

 

 

 

 

While we were over on that side of the farm, I opened up the door to the old guest house, which we have left in a state of de-construction because we are currently preparing to build onto our actual house.

I subsequenty shut the door.  It’s just too scary to even think about right now.

Then, it was time for Stephen’s birthday.  When Gary’s gone, we end up celebrating birthdays across days or even weeks.  Stephen got to have the decorations up for his birthday for over two weeks, and he had two “birthdays.”  He asked for a British flag cake.  Now, obviously, I am NOT a gourmet cook, but, nevertheless, he was a happy boy!

 

Then we also had to celebrate Daddy’s birthday because he was going to be gone for his birthday, too!  (Matter of fact, he has been overseas for everyone’s birthday thus far this year!)

So, in the spirit of this “flag day cake” thing, we made Gary a South Korean Flag cake, since his drillship is leaving South Korea to go to Tanzania now.

 

You know, flags have been a theme in our home this summer.  It couldn’t be those flag flash cards I found in the $1 bins at Target, now, could it?

We built a Paper City using American landmark paper toys from Papertoys.com.  We even made an I Spy riddle to go with it!

I spy Twin Towers, U, and a Queen of the Mississippi,
Brooklyn Bridge, The President’s Home, and a statue called Liberty.
A hospital, our Capitol, Presidents high up on a rock,
And a place where Cubs just might play Red Sox.
Then Stephen built a K’nex ferris wheel the week of the Smith County Fair.

 

And then he had a performance with the Community Kidz Choir at the fair.

 

 

And we stayed for fun & games.  We even treated ourselves to chocolate-covered bananas!
Finally, I started the Flylady Beginner Babysteps to help me get better organized because, perfectionist that I am, I tend to let things go because I can never be “perfecty caught up.”  And so, here is my shiny sink.  I’m awfullly proud of it.  And now I know that the key to reaching the summit of Mt. Washmore is to do “a load a day to keep the chaos away.”

And, along with our previous posts on nature studies and other activities, that wraps up our summer.  Stephen has been in camp this week, and we’re off to pick him up now.  I’m so giddy I can hardly stand it.  And Gary comes home next week!  HOOORAAAYYY!!!
