After purchasing a lapbook from Hands of a Child, I discovered a few other resources that would have sufficed for our entire study of the Renaissance. So, in addition to this lapbook, we also used some of Dynamic 2 Mom’s great FREE resources on the Renaissance Period, the Practical Pages Renaissance Art Timeline, and Homeschool Share’s Reformation Unit Study (which we will actually go in more depth at a much later date), so we had a super-duper lapbook by the time we were finished. Here are a just a couple of pictures, but it took many pictures to capture all the pages in this study!

After we learned about da Vinci, Stephen decided he is going to be an inventor, so he made a miniature journal to jot down his ideas. We watched the movie Meet the Robinsons, which tied in nicely with the whole idea of invention!
We found a good free audio recording of Shakespeare’s Much Ado about Nothing. Stephen kept calling it “Much TO DO about Nothing,” but, nevertheless, we enjoyed this reading of it. We also built a paper model of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, which was actually quite tough because it was so SMALL.
Okay, so there are some things we love to do. Constructing things is one of them, so we built yet another paper toy model for this time period: the Santa Maria. This one was a bit challenging, as it had some pretty tight folds and was difficult to hold together until the glue set, but, it still looked pretty good when we finished!
The most exciting part of this unit was when we visited The Nina and Pinta when it ported in Chattanooga. Before we went, we studied the Age of Exploration, and in doing so, we used some of Homeschool Share’s Explorer Unit. Really, this was so amazing – we all learned SO MUCH!
While visiting, the boys turned the windlass, the machine used to lift the heavy anchor.

And that concludes our Renaissance Unit Study, at least until we attend the Renaissance Festival later this year. Honestly, I’ve never had so much FUN learning history in my life!! (And I even remember what I learn this time around!)
