Online Organization for Classical Conversations

If you are following us to discover our supplemental resources in the form of great on-line freebies for History, Geography, Science, Timeline, Math, and Fine Arts, then you may want to go ahead and create an on-line organization system for saving all of this… stuff.  Otherwise, you might get overwhelmed and not use anything.  (I’m speaking from experience here!  See my previous post on The Law of Increasing Disorder, and imagine that my on-line files were also suffering from this same phenomenon.)

I offer here a suggested way to organize your digital files.  If you don’t like this method, be sure to find some method for saving this material so you don’t forget to use the wonderful resources available to you!

First, create a Classical Conversations folder.

Next, create a Cycle, 1, Cycle 2, Cycle 3 and All Cycles folder.

In the All Cycles folder, create a folder for the things that we study that are the same every year: Timeline, Drawing, Music Theory/Tin Whistle, and U.S. Presidents. (You can also put a Math folder here.)

In the Cycle 1, Cycle 2, and Cycle 3 folders, create folders labeled Week 1 through Week 24. (The easiest way to do this is create these 24 folders in one of the cycle folders and then copy and paste them all into the other two cycle folders.) I also like to save all of my official Classical Conversations files in a separate folder called CC Memory Work & Audio Resources.

In each of the Week folders, you can also create folders for all 8 subjects: Bible, History, Geography, Math (if you didn’t place it in the All Cycles folder), Latin, English Grammar, Science, and a shortcut to your Timeline folder.

Now your ready for resources: Cycle 1, Cycle 2, Cycle 3. You can also find them organized week by week: Cycle 1, Cycle 2, Cycle 3.

But what about all those print-outs?

To keep up with all of the hard copy print-outs, I use a hanging file folder system with folders labeled Weeks 1 through 24.

When my wonderful husband provides me with a planning day (I get at least one per semester!), I usually print out 12 weeks worth of material.  I take everything I need for a particular week (including instructions for crafts and other activities) and put it in its corresponding folder.  That way, at the beginning of each week, I can pull it out and everything is there ready to go!

Okay, so now I need to practice what I preach and get my files organized!
