Because Gary has been in Kristiansand, we’ve been on a quest to learn more about Norway this week.  We first located Norway on the globe in Northern Europe as part of the Scandinavian Peninsula, bordered on the east by Sweden (and Finland at the Northeast), with the North Sea to the south.

We completed a coloring page on the Norwegian Flag and found several other activities to complete at crayola.com.

Because the classic children’s story Three Billy Goats Gruff originated from Norway, we made paper billy goat & troll puppets available at The Toymaker and used them to act out the story as we read it.

As we discussed some history about Vikings, we made a viking paper longboat from Hands On Crafts for Kids.

Gary has had trouble finding authentic Norwegian food during his stay, so when he gets back this weekend, we will be trying Norwegian Potato Lefsa.  Because Saturdays are pancake days here at Half-a-Hundred Acre Wood, we will also alter our normal pancake recipe to have Pannekaken, traditional Norwegian pancakes.
That wraps up our little unit study on Norway.  Tonight we’ll be watching How to Train Your Dragon for family movie night.  Gary will be returning to Norway before heading back to South Korea, so we may have some additional photos to post very soon.  Until then, “Ha det fint!”
