It’s that time again! Yep, it’s time for our fourth annual Great Big Ole Book Giveaway! Woohoo!

As our family reorganized our bookshelves this summer, we decided to release a few of our books to bless another family who may wish to add some Medieval-to-Modern History-related reading to their home library (along with some books related astronomy/physical science and some math fact flashcards!). These books are from our personal home library and are in “good” to “like new” condition. Included in this giveaway are the following:

Read Alouds: Middle Ages through Modern Times

Dates with Destiny: The 100 Most Important Dates in Church History. Curtis. An overview of the most significant dates, events, and people of Christian church history.

The Magna Charta. Daugherty. Follow the rule of King John and the colorful characters of the 13th century as you learn the story behind the drafting of the Magna Charta. The last part of this book provides a history of documents influenced by this pivotal milestone in liberty.

Robin Hood. McSpadden. Read the legend of the heroic outlaws from English folklore, Robin Hood and his Merry Men, who were known to “rob from the rich and give to the poor.”

A Single Shard. Park. This work of historical fiction set in Medieval Korea highlights an orphan boy’s journey into working for a master potter and the dangers he experiences as he attempts to present his master’s work to the royal court.

The King’s Fifth. O’Dell. This Newbery Honor book set during the time of the conquistadors involves a young mapmaker’s imprisonment and trial for withholding the king’s royal share of the treasure – and his recollections of the quest for gold in the Americas.

Shadow on the Mountain. Preus. Set during World War II in Nazi-occupied Norway, this work of historical fiction follows the life of a teenage boy who becomes a spy for the Norewegian Resistance. Back matter includes special hands-on spy activities.

Richard Wurmbrand: A Voice in the Dark. MacKenzie. This biography retells the gripping account of Romanian pastor Richard Wurmbrand during communist rule in Eastern Europe. After his release from suffering years of mental and physical torture for his Christian faith, Wurmbrand founded Voice of the Martyrs to support Christians who are sharing the Gospel in the darkest places in the world.

Nelson Mandela’s Favorite African Folktales Audio CD (3-Disk Set). This audiobook features African Folktales narrated by famous actors such as Matt Damon and Samuel L Jackson. This selection is also good for studying ancient Africa. Check out an audio sample here.

History and Science

Streams of Civilization Volume One. A world history narrative of civilizations from creation to 1620, presented from a Christian worldview (although evolution is mentioned). Includes vocabulary questions, exercises, maps, and illustrations. (Included with this bundle for its sections on Middle Ages through the Age of Exploration.)

Exploring Creation with Astronomy. Study the major structures of our solar system and beyond with this resource written in an engaging narrative format presented from a Christian worldview. Also reinforces learning with activities and projects using everyday household items.

God’s Design for the Physical World: Machines & Motion (Student Book and Teacher Supplement). AFrom a favorite series in our home for its simplicity in implementation, this book provides an overview of simple machines and the laws of motion – and how these concepts were used throughout history.

Picture or Activity Books

Michelangelo. Stanley. A wonderful picture book biography of famous Renaissance artist and sculptor Michelangelo Buonarroti. Illustrations of Michaelangelo’s work are incorporated into illustrations of scenes from the artist’s life.
