Cycle 2 Weekly Links: Weeks 1-6 : Half a Hundred Acre Wood

The following is an example of what we’ve posted for each quarter/week of Cycle 2. All of these resources (and more) can be found organized by subject on our Cycle 2 Resources Page. There are several resources on our Cycle 2 Subject Resources Pages that span multiple weeks. Don’t forget to check them out (especially math, science, and history!). You will not find memory work verbiage in my links lists or in my documents.

For an open-and go reading/curriculum plan that overlaps much of the memory work studied during Cycle 2 – with an integrated study of church history, world history/geography, science, and fine arts, check out our Mission: Faith Forgers Curriculum Plan. Our open-and-go, Christian Classical Curriculum integrates the study of the world and the ongoing fulfillment of the Great Commission, with a focus on loving God, His Word, and fellow mankind.

Note: Although Mission: Faith Forgers is not directly correlated to the memory work, it includes a more complete study of astronomy, physical science, and history. The books selected for this reading plan were chosen as long-term resources for students to use when they embark on research and world geography memorization in grades 7+. This study has been designed to be used independently of Classical Conversations®. For families who use Classical Conversations®, the readings assigned in the Mission: Faith Forgers study overlaps much of the memory work studied during Cycle 2 but is not correlated week by week. This provides an opportunity for ongoing review and integration of the memory work throughout the year.

Do we use this stuff? We’ve used some of it (like multiplication drills sheets and on-line geography games). But most of this we do not use. Our family spends more time reading and working on core skills during the elementary-school years and keeps our schedule open for playing board games together, or researching something that our children are interested in, or doing a random science investigation or nature study. We use our resource lists as resource lists – that is, when we wish to quickly find a resource I’ve come across in the past, we reference this list. I call it the “Link Buffet.” If this list is overwhelming, please ignore it. This is simply meant to be a reference site.
